DESCRIPTION:For autistic people aged 14-19 without a co-occurring learning disability resident in Harrow\, Brent\, Ealing\, Hillingdon\, Hounslow\, Hammersmith & Fulham\, Westminster\, and Kensington & Chelsea. \nA monthly online forum for young autistic people to explore what it means to become an adult. During the teen years there’s a lot of talk about ‘growing up’\, ‘being an adult’ without really discussing what that means. \nThese monthly sessions will provide a safe place to explore and ask those important questions\, work through any worries about ‘growing up’ and what ‘being an adult’ means. Training will cover: \n\nWhy autistic people are probably at higher risk of homelessness\nWhy autistic people may find it more challenging to take up support offered by homeless professionals\nGuidance on how to identify if a person living with homelessness might be autistic\nHow professionals can adapt their practice to better support autistic people living with homelessness\n\nAlasdair Churchard is a Clinical Psychologist and NIHR pre-doctoral fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford. He carried out the first published research into links between autism and homelessness\, showing that autistic people may be over-represented among the homeless population.
